Trevi Fountain

Of course my first trip to Rome wouldn't have been completed without seeing the famous Fontana De Trevi as they say in Italian or the Trevi Fountain.

The fountain dates back to the ancient Roman Times and this was built at the junction of the 3 streets or tre vie and that's how it get's its name.

The fountain is charitable as quite a lot of money is collected everyday as people follow the tradition of throwing coins over their shoulder into the fountain. The legend says that if you throw a coin here it ensures your return back to Rome. This tradition dates back to the ancient Romans who often threw coins to favour the Water Gods to favour their journey and to ensure their safe return. Throw a 2nd coin if you're seeking love ...even a 3rd coin for wedding bells! I would think that these are just additions from the modern times by a romantic fool!

These coins are collected every night and given to a charity house. Maybe that's why it is illegal to fish out coins from here.
